Here’s an example process of how converting a real-world asset into a digital token could work:

  1. Creating the digital tokens - creating a digital token means identifying the asset to be tokenized, understanding the regulatory rules involved, choosing the blockchain platform to build on, establishing the basis for its value, and ensuring compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements before issuance.
  2. Smart contract implementation - smart contracts govern the issuance, balance tracking, and rewards systems associated with this digital asset.
  3. Token distribution - Once the digital tokens have been developed, the next step would be to sell the assets to investors and traders. The fractionized asset could be sold through private or public sales, or a combination of the two.
  4. Asset management - similar to real world assets, the developers must then take a managerial role in the underlying asset, ensuring that the asset continues to either hold or grow in value and utility. Developers or asset managers must also ensure regulatory compliance and proper governance mechanisms.

The cryptocurrency space, in general, is tumultuous, especially regarding legalities and regulation. Many countries have yet to establish clear regulations and regulatory requirements for projects. Without a clear set of requirements, companies have a harder time justifying tokenization when potential legal issues loom.
